Man Utd now want to sign £29.7m star with 7.5 recoveries/game, Liverpool failed with bid last year - report
Manchester United are setting their sights on one of Brazil's brightest young midfield talents, according to TNT Sports BR.
The Red Devils have pinpointed Manuel Ugarte as their top midfield target this summer. Negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain are underway to secure a deal, potentially involving a loan with an obligation to buy for £51 million.
However, TNT Sports BR reports that United are also eyeing Fluminense's Andre Trindade. Discussions have already taken place with the player's representatives about a possible transfer.
Aline Nastari, who broke the story, emphasized that Fluminense are keen to sell Andre to raise funds, and the midfielder is ready to embrace a new challenge. Although United have yet to submit a formal offer to the Brazilian club, Fluminense are expected to demand at least £29.7 million, including add-ons, for the highly-rated star.
Could Andre be United's Plan B if the Ugarte deal falls through?
Andre has emerged as one of the standout defensive midfielders in Brazil's Serie A. The 23-year-old has been outstanding this season for Fluminense, boasting a 95% pass completion rate and an impressive 80% long-ball accuracy. He averages 2.2 tackles, 5.5 duels, and 7.5 recoveries per game, showcasing the qualities needed to thrive in the Premier League.
In our view, United may turn their attention to the Brazilian ace if a deal for Ugarte fails to materialize, despite the player having already agreed on personal terms. Sky Sports reported today that there is still no guarantee of Ugarte joining United, even with talks at an advanced stage, making Andre a potential fallback option.
Andre has long been on the radar of Premier League clubs. Fulham were priced out of a move earlier in the transfer window, while Liverpool's £25.4 million bid last summer was rejected as Fluminense aimed to keep their star player while competing for the Copa Libertadores title.
